Hydroponic Growing Media

Rockwool
Seeds or cuttings are started in small rockwool cubes and, once rooted, the cubes are transferred to a bigger piece of rockwool or may be planted directly in soil or other growing medium. Rockwool is used in systems such as NFT Gulley, Quantum System and the Ebb & Flow. Hortiwool is also available.

Grodan rockwool has been made in Denmark since 1969. Let us introduce you to Grodan stonewool: Grodan is water absorbent stonewool. Mother Nature makes her own stonewool which is known as angel hair from volcanoes. In the case of Grodan, rocks are heated up to 3000 degrees Fahrenheit and spun into wool like cotton candy. This method gives a media that is sterile and always maintains its structure.

Hydroton

This clay aggregate is manufactured exclusively at high-tech kilns in Germany and is used as a soil replacement in hydroponics. Composed of shale that is pelletized and fired, Hydroton holds water extremely well and transmits it effectively. The pellets are uniform in size and have an attractive, natural appearance. Hydroton is chemically inert, has neutral pH, is reusable, clean and odorless. It is used in systems such as the Luwasa, Rainforest, Waterfarm, and our new Airfarm and Dutch Garden.

Coconut Fiber Potting Medium
Gro-Brick and Gro-Block are excellent gardening components made of natural biodegradable coconut fibers. It is ultra-compressed into the size of a brick, for easy handling and storage. Just add water; one 20-ounce brick yields about eight to nine quarts of ready-to-use organic soil improver/potting medium. Durable fiber and high moisture retention make Gro-Brick an excellent gardening component. And it's environmentally friendly - no delicate peat bog wetlands are disturbed.

Oasis Horticubes and Rootcubes

Low density foam block is formulated for seed germination crops like lettuce, tomatoes, and spinach. Needs watering down prior to seeding. Stable pH.

Soil amendments are also available for outdoor growing
